چکیده

The large supercluster structures obvious in recent galaxy redshift surveys are quantified using an one-dimensional cluster analysis (core sampling) and a three-dimensional cluster analysis based on the minimal spanning tree. The comparison with the LCRS reveals promising stable results. At a mean overdensity of about ten, the supercluster systems form huge wall-like structures comprising about 40% of all galaxies. The overdense clusters have a low mean transverse velocity dispersion of about 400 km/s, i.e. they look quite narrow in redshift space. We performed N-body simulations with large box sizes for six cosmological scenarios. The quantitative analysis shows that the observed structures can be understood best in low density models with Ω m ≤ 0.5 with or without a cosmological constant.

Two Dimensional Topology of Large Scale Structure in the Las Campanas Redshift Survey

We have measured the topology (genus) of the density distribution of large-scale structure observed in the Las Campanas Redshift Survey (LCRS). The LCRS is complete to magnitude 17.5, and contains nearly 24000 galaxies with median redshift of 30000 km/s. The large volume and large number of galaxies allows sampling of nearly 100 independent structures with which to compute the genus topology, a...

The Universe on Very Large Scales: A View from the Las Campanas Redshift Survey

The Las Campanas Redshift Survey (LCRS) is among the first galaxy redshift surveys to sample a reasonably fair volume of the local Universe. On the largest scales (≫ 100 h Mpc), the galaxy distribution appears smooth; on relatively small scales ( < ∼ 10 h Mpc), the LCRS tends to confirm the clustering characteristics observed in previous, shallower surveys. Here, however, we concern ourselves p...

The Scaling of the Redshift Power Spectrum: Observations from the Las Campanas Redshift Survey

In a recent paper we have studied the redshift power spectrum P (k, μ) in three CDM models with the help of high resolution simulations. Here we apply the method to the largest available redshift survey, the Las Campanas Redshift Survey (LCRS). The basic model is to express P (k, μ) as a product of three factors P (k, μ) = P(k)(1 + βμ)D(k, μ) . (1) Here μ is the cosine of the angle between the ...

We present the rst results of the Karhunen-Lo eve (KL) eigenmodes applied to real data of the Las Campanas Redshift Survey (LCRS) to simultaneously measure the values of the redshift-distortion parameter, = 0:6 0 =b, the linearly extrapolated normalization, L 8 , and the CDM shape parameter, ? = 0 h. The results of our numerical likelihood analysis indicate a low value of = 0:300:39, a shape pa...

Density-Dependent Luminosity Functions for Galaxies in the Las Campanas Redshift Survey

Galaxies in the Las Campanas Redshift Survey are classified according to their spectra, and the resulting spectral types are analyzed to determine if local environment affects their properties. We find that the luminosity function of early-type objects varies as a function of local density. Our results suggest that early-type galaxies (presumably ellipticals and S0’s) are, on average, fainter w...
